UltraDNS Purchases Nominum's DNS Hosting Customer Base UltraDNS Increases Market Share By Securing Competitor's ccTLD and gTLD Customers; Nominum Exits Service Business to Focus on DNS and DHCP Software Products SAN MATEO, Calif., October 9, 2002 -- UltraDNS the leading Directory Infrastructure Services Provider (DISP), today announced the acquisition of competitor Nominum's DNS hosting customer base and the Secondary DNS (www.secondary.com) property. Under the terms of the agreement, UltraDNS will begin serving all of Nominum's DNS hosting customers, including several country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) and several generic TLDs (gTLDs), including .no (Norway), .lu (Luxembourg), .ie (Ireland), and .coop. This purchase reinforces UltraDNS' strong presence in the ccTLD and gTLD market and establishes them as the single largest infrastructure provider to the TLD space. UltraDNS' industry leading, non-BIND based Managed DNS ServiceT already handles all DNS resolutions for generic TLD, .info. UltraDNS is also the official ICANN-recommended resolver for the generic TLD, .org. The transition to UltraDNS' Managed DNS Service will be seamless for Nominum's DNS hosting customers. UltraDNS will begin to resolve queries for all of Nominum's DNS hosting customers, including some 5,000 Secondary DNS customers. UltraDNS' Managed DNS Service guarantees mission-critical, 100 percent directory services reliability and high performance. Utilizing its proprietary Directory Services Platform, UltraDNS has built a global, fail-safe server network designed to meet the demands for 100 percent, SLA-guaranteed reliability, scalability, security, and high performance data management in today's Internet and telecom environment - supporting millions of users managing billions of records. "Nominum has always been an Internet leader and a fantastic competitor. We credit them for showing concern for their customers by selecting UltraDNS' carrier-class server network as the new service provider for their DNS hosting needs. Keeping the public network of DNS servers diversified reduces the possibility of a widespread BIND-related disaster of the public Internet," said Ben Petro, president and CEO of UltraDNS. "With the mass of major ccTLDs and gTLDs resolving through UltraDNS' fail-safe Directory Services Platform, the opportunity for dramatic Internet failure is significantly mitigated." "This sale follows a strategic decision by Nominum to exit the outsourced management business and concentrate on developing a new generation of enterprise software products for DNS and DHCP," said Chris Risley, CEO of Nominum. "The sale reinforces UltraDNS' position as a significant player in the outsourced management services market, and enables Nominum to focus on delivering our best-in-class technology for IP address infrastructure in the form of commercially-licensed software." Terms of the deal are not disclosed.
