SAFE DHCP ™
Following the acquisition of MetaInfo in January 2007, NeuStar is pleased to offer UltraDNS customers the industry-leading Meta SAFE DHCP ™, a standards-based DHCP solution that protects your network from unintended attacks, unknown users and devices.
Using SAFE DHCP ™, network administrators can enforce user authentication and integrity checking policies to prevent malicious code and unknown users on the network. Network administrators have complete control over access to network resources, allowing only those users who pass selected authentication and integrity scans. Failed access attempts are flagged and remain quarantined.
How It Works
With SAFE DHCP ™, all network users must pass the host integrity scanning and authentication procedures the network requires. A special DNS internal root service, SAFE DNS, resolves all queries to the SAFE Registration Web page. The SAFE Registration process involves seven basic steps:
- DHCP client requests an IP address
- SAFE DHCP ™ examines a MAC Address Database, determines that the client is unknown or expired, and issues a quarantined lease
- User opens a Web browser
- SAFE DNS resolves query to the SAFE Registration page
- User completes required scanning/authentication procedures
- SAFE DHCP ™ adds user to the MAC Address Database with Allow, Deny, or Hold status
- Network Administrator determines when the client receives an unrestricted lease
The Network Administrator controls what happens after the user completes and passes the procedures, but users that fail the procedures remain in quarantine and isolated from the rest of the network.
