Getting Started
Before you start, here are a few things you will need to have in order to use UltraDNS Managed DNS Services:
- A domain registered to you through an ICANN-accredited registrar.
- If the domain you are setting up will provide Web services, you will need to obtain the IP address of your Web server from your Web hosting provider.
- You will need the hostname of the server that will handle email for your domain. Most Web hosting firms include email services with their hosting packages and can probably provide you this information as well. UltraDNS offers Email and URL Forwarding services in addition to its Managed DNS Service.
- A major credit card to charge service fees.
- If you are planning to use the Managed DNS Service to provide secondary-only (backup) DNS services, you will need to know the IP address of your primary (master) server, and that server will need to allow zone transfers from IP addresses:
- 204.74.97.10
- 156.154.63.122
- 156.154.63.123
- 204.74.97.97
- 204.74.100.11
- 204.74.100.12
Using an Existing Domain
If you already have a domain (or domains) registered, you will need to inform your registrar that the UltraDNS name servers will be authoritative for your domain. Below are the server addresses you will need to use:
UDNS1.ULTRADNS.NET
204.69.234.1
UDNS2.ULTRADNS.NET
204.74.101.1
If you are using the Managed DNS Service systems for secondary (backup) DNS services only, leave the existing primary server address “as is” and use either entry above for your secondary servers.
Registering a Domain
If you don't have a domain yet, you can register a domain through any ICANN-accredited registrar and still allow us to handle your DNS services. A list of ICANN-accredited registrars is located at http://www.icann.org. When your registrar asks for name server addresses, you will use the UltraDNS addresses given above.
